Social Studies Department: Murray Avenue
The Social Studies Curricula grades four through eight is centered on a few core principles. These include; teaching in-depth material, developing strong academic skills, relating historical content to current issues, enhancing reading, writing, speaking, and research skills, and promoting active citizenship.
6th Grade
The scope of the sixth grade Social Studies curriculum runs ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt to the classical civilizations of the Greeks and Romans. In addition, integrated throughout the course is a current events component that enables students to make links between contemporary issues and issues of the ancient world. Citizenship and economic issues are a big part of these links. To assist students in becoming life-long learners, critical thinking and organizational skills are stressed in all units.
